Election record, 1819.

Entitled "A list of poles (polls) taken at an election at the Council House at Detroit the 2nd Sept. 1819" with 416 voters, 5 candidates, and election inspectors (with signatures) for an election of a delegate to Congress. Candidates included: Augustus B. Woodward, J. McCloskey, Henry J. Hunt, John R. Williams, and the winner William Woodbridge. With this public office, Woodbridge began a long life of service to the state, including being a Michigan governor and U.S. Senator. Woodward served as Justice of the Michigan Territorial Supreme Court, 1805-1824. Williams served as Delegate of the First District to the Constitutional Convention, 1835; delegate from Wayne County to the Second Constitutional Convention of Assent, 1836; as the first Mayor of Detroit, 1824-1846, and he prepared Detroit's first charter.
